This page explains what personal data is collected on Conseil Voyageur, why, how long it is kept and how to exercise your rights. It applies to the whole site, in both its French and English versions.
1. Data controller
The site is published by Stéphane Tan (Stefan on the blog), who is responsible for the processing of collected data. Details about the publisher and the host are available in the legal notice. For any question about your data, please use the contact page.
2. Data collected
The site only collects the data it needs to work:
- Contact form: your name, email address and message, so we can reply to you.
- Comments: your name, email address, website (optional), your message, as well as your IP address and the date of posting. Your email address is never displayed publicly.
- Technical data: the host records the IP address, date and requested pages in its server logs, for security and to keep the site running.
3. Why this data is used
- To reply to your messages and manage comments (your request, or our legitimate interest in running the blog).
- To fight spam: comments go through an anti-spam service (Akismet), which analyses the IP address and the content of the message in particular.
- To ensure the security and technical maintenance of the site.
Your data is never sold or rented, and is not used to send you advertising without your consent.
4. Retention periods
- Messages sent through the contact form: as long as needed to handle your request, then 3 years at most.
- Comments: as long as they remain published on the site. You can ask for them to be deleted at any time.
- Server logs: 12 months at most.
5. Affiliate links and embedded content
Some articles contain affiliate links: if you book or buy through these links, the blog may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Articles may also include videos or posts from other websites. This embedded content behaves as if you were visiting the original website: it may collect data about you, under its own privacy policy.
6. Recipients and transfers outside the European Union
Data is only accessible to the site’s publisher and to the technical providers that help run it: the host OVH (in France) and Automattic for spam filtering. Some of these providers may process data outside the European Union; these transfers are covered by the safeguards provided by the GDPR (standard contractual clauses or adequacy decision).
7. Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act, you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to its processing, and the right to data portability. You can also withdraw your consent at any time.
To exercise these rights, write to us through the contact page, specifying your request. You will receive an answer within one month. If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can file a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority.
8. Security
The site is served over HTTPS and protected by reasonable technical measures (regular updates, spam filtering, restricted access to the administration). As no transmission over the Internet is completely secure, absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
9. Changes
This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the site or to the regulations. The date of the latest update is shown below.
