What’s great when traveling is that you have lots of stories to tell because often unusual things happen or things you don’t normally do!
I can tell you that a lot happened during my 15 months in Australia! I have hundreds of anecdotes to share but I will only share 5 in this article!

Australian Anecdote and Australian cliché: An unexpected encounter
During my 2-week stay in Darwin, I regularly used the free wifi service in the city’s public library! It was then that I met Samuel, a former colleague from Facebook, typing away on his computer! I hadn’t seen him for 2 years! We went for a drink right after, talked about our respective travels, and went to watch a 2010 World Cup match! I also happened to meet other people around the world, a German woman I had met earlier in San Francisco to Melbourne in a youth hostel, funny coincidence!
- A New Year in Tasmania
On New Year’s Eve 2010, which I celebrated in Tasmania, I was working on a garlic farm, starting at 7 am and finishing at 4 pm, so I took the opportunity to go to Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. For the return trip, just like the way there, I hitchhiked; I was offered 2 beers in the 3 cars that gave me a ride back to my camp to celebrate the New Year! Not bad, they are very welcoming in Tasmania!

Australian Anecdote and Australian cliché: A memorable nightclub return!
During my stay in Sydney, I was living in a youth hostel. I came back to my room at 3 am and saw my roommate (an Englishman) having doggy style sex with a young lady! Then, embarrassed by the situation, the young lady apologized for 30 seconds; I’ve never heard “sorry” said so quickly! We had a good laugh the next day! A memorable memory from Australia 😀 and it’s quite common!
- A fun game!
During my stay on Magnetic Island, we were in a youth hostel; that night there was a small party and games! The first game was to drink a beer as fast as possible but I didn’t participate! I thought I would join the second game to get a free drink! That wasn’t the case because the game was to simulate an orgasm! Damn, it was hilarious, I even have a video but it will remain secret! The next game was musical chairs and when you lost, you had to remove a piece of clothing! Some people ended up naked, and me in my underwear!
During this game, I was representing France!
- An Australia Day with a stadium vibe
Australia Day is like the national holiday in France; I was then in Sydney, the city is quite lively at this summer time because January is summer in Australia! We spent a quiet day with friends to end up at Darling Harbour where the fireworks were about to start! We were looking at each other and everyone was getting impatient because it was 10:10 pm and the fireworks were supposed to start at 10 pm! I decided with my friends to create the atmosphere! After a failed attempt at clapping hands and then a second failed attempt! A new idea came to me, I would start a “Hola” with my friends! Some people had already followed our previous attempts and this one worked!
It was followed by chain “holas”! Imagine a half-circle 200-300 meters long doing “holas” when 15 minutes earlier it was quite calm! We were like in a stadium but in a harbor!
