Hello Stefan, thank you for hosting me on your blog. Let me introduce myself, I am Jean, I am 25 years old and I am originally from the Caribbean, more specifically from the island of Martinique where I lived for 15 years before moving to mainland France.
Places and things to do in Martinique
In this article, I will present my native island and give you things to do in Martinique:
- I won’t be original, but I would say that if you go to Martinique, you must go to the beach. The beaches I prefer are: Anses-d’Arlet and Anse-Noire. In my opinion, they are also the most beautiful. They are located in the south of the island.
- Visit the natural parks especially the Balata garden which is only 10 km from Fort-de-France, it is a must-see place in Martinique. The garden has an entrance fee, but it is worth the visit. It is one of the most visited tourist sites.
- Discover the island’s natural riches, there are not only beaches in Martinique, but also mountains. The highest mountain in Martinique is Mount Pelée. If you are a hiking fan, you absolutely must go to the side of this mountain. Not far from this place, there are other very nice hikes to do, especially on the Carbet peaks. You will have quite a walk ahead, I tell you 😀
- Taste the local specialties, Martinique being bordered by the sea, you absolutely must try the seafood which is excellent. There are some local specialties to try such as sea urchins or octopus. If you have a bigger budget, you can try lobsters which are absolutely delicious. There are also plenty of exotic fruits to try: mango, guava, passion fruit, etc.
- Drink rum, with lime and cane sugar! Have a little punch before going to the beach or when coming back, what a pleasure! This is something absolutely not to miss if you go to Martinique.
- Go scuba diving or snorkeling. With these crystal-clear beaches, it is a pleasure to swim and see schools of fish, corals. You can also dive into wrecks. I took my first diving level there and it was an unforgettable memory for me. I recommend it.
- One last thing I like to do when coming back from my little island is canoeing, it is recommended to do it in the north of the island, because that is where there are the most rivers.
