I lived more than 2 months in Tasmania on my Working Holiday Visa and I can tell you it is here that I had my best moments with Sydney and Cairns and also saw the most beautiful landscapes.
Tasmania is also known for hosting the Tasmanian devil, which is an animal that always spins around. If during your childhood you followed “that cartoon”, you know what I mean :D.

What to do in Tasmania: Freycinet National Park:
The name of Freycinet Park comes from a Frenchman who was a politician and engineer in the 19th century. For hiking addicts, this park is made for you, it has one of the prettiest beaches I have ever seen “Wineglass Bay”, the water is transparent there. This place is magical for you and will remain engraved in my memories for several reasons, I swam there with wild dolphins! The landscape is worth the detour. You can do a 5-day hike there if you feel like it!

What to do in Tasmania Cradle Mountain:
This place is known for its Overland Track, several routes are possible from north to south or vice versa, starting from “Lake St Clair” until reaching the summit of “Cradle” Mountain. This Overland Track lasts 5 days, you do it with a small group of 15-30 people depending on the season! It’s amazing, you travel through unprecedented landscapes! I personally did the Overland Track and a one-night camping! One of the best hikes in Australia in my opinion!!

What to do in Tasmania: Bruny Island
Small island located 100 km south of Hobart, there is no running water! You have to stock up before going. What is nice about this island is that it has remained in its natural state. Everything is preserved there. Depending on your rental means, you will have a different experience!
Some tour operators offer you to get there by boat from Hobart, in this tour you can see seals and a part of the island inaccessible by car!
By car or bike if the weather allows and if you have good legs. Know that the island is roughly 20*20 km, so very accessible by bike!
You can see penguins coming out of their burrow in the evening at one of the island’s spots. The beaches are very pretty but the water is a bit cold!
What to do in Tasmania? Port Arthur:
Located 60km from Hobart, Port Arthur is one of the most historically charged places in Australia and one of the most beautiful tourist sites in Australia. For what reason, you ask? It has one of the penitentiary sites full of history!

Hobart: Capital of Australia
Capital of Tasmania, it is the starting point for many trips. Example: Port Arthur, Bruny Island or Freycinet NP. The city is quickly explored but it has a market, the Salamanca Market, open only on Saturdays if I remember correctly 😀 with many fresh products and products made in Tasmania!
I came across in Hobart the whale hunting weapon in Antarctica called “Ady Gil”.
What I like in Tasmania are the people, they are very open and hitchhiking is very easy there!
Little anecdote: during my New Year 2010, I was working until 6 pm and I decided to go back to Cygnet (place where I was camping, 60km south of Hobart) passing through Hobart so I had no means of transportation. It took me 3 cars to get to Cygnet and I was offered 2 beers by my new Tasmanian friends, super COOL!!! New Year is one of my best moments in Tasmania
