Australia and Its Magical Moments, Part II
Key Takeaway
Top 10 activities to do in Australia: Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, Sydney Opera House, east coast road trip, surfing at Byron Bay, Great Ocean Road, Tasmania, whales in Western Australia, Daintree Rainforest, Kakadu National Park.
The continuation of the article, I’m going to tell you about the 10 things not to miss in Australia!
;– Sky dive! Several spots are possible, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne (I don’t recommend), better to do it over the reef at spots like Mission Beach, Cairns or Airlie Beach!
  ;
Many people ask me what the sensations are like and if it’s really scary! I can tell you that “yes,” during the ascent the professionals tell you every 3000 feet that it’s almost our turn! We did a flip jumping out of the plane, so cool :D. The free fall lasts 1-5 minutes, I honestly don’t remember! During the parachute phase, you can steer your parachute and the guy does twists for you 😀 Super cool but it only lasts less than an hour from the climb to the plane to landing on the beach! Would do it again!
Ps: that’s me 😀   ;– Swim with Whale Sharks at Ningaloo Reef (Western Australia), with the “dare if you can!” sharks at Port Lincoln (South Australia), with crocodiles in Darwin (Northern Territory). The first two are impressive and scary while the last one is just routine if you’ve done the other two!
Whale sharks are huge (10 m to 15 m) but harmless because they only eat plankton! There is a particular season to be able to swim with them so be careful, the same goes for the sharks!
My Experience
If I had to pick one activity in Australia: whale watching at Hervey Bay (Queensland) in September. 2 hours by boat at 5 meters from a humpback whale and her calf. A memory engraved for life. 120 AUD for the ticket, worth every minute.
Did you know?
Australia has 20 UNESCO World Heritage sites, including 12 natural criteria and 8 mixed (nature and culture). That’s more than France (49) when adjusted for population density.
– Visit Tasmania, Conquer Cradle Mountain, Breathe in Tasmania with Freycinet National Park! One of my best moments in Australia, it’s better to go in January or February, it’s even recommended! See the article on Tasmania!
If you have a car, fear nothing, you can come by taking the “Spirit of Tasmania” which is a ferry connecting Melbourne to Davenport, the price varies depending on your car and the season, it’s better to book the ticket one month in advance to get good prices!
Advantages
- Exceptional diversity of activities
- Preserved nature
- Accessible UNESCO sites
- Unique observable wildlife
- Outdoor sports all year round
Weak points
- Huge distances (often flights required)
- High cost of excursions
- Seasonality to respect
- Reservations necessary (Uluru, Kakadu)
- Concentration of tourists on top sites
– See the sunset in Western Australia, especially in Broome! If you head north, Broome is the last beach where you would have the chance to swim, so enjoy it!
The sunsets in Western Australia are all magnificent one after another! I remember one day going to Rottnest Island, a paradise island near Perth, and watching the sunset with my companions on the island’s lighthouse! It was a moment still very fresh in my mind because I remember it so well!
The classic trap to avoid
Avoid Sydney in December for the Sydney Opera House: inflated prices (Christmas and NYE), suffocating crowds. Prefer April-May or October-November to enjoy without the crowd.
– Dig in and Surf the Wave, Surfer Paradise (New South Wales) beginner and expert, Torquay (Victoria) beginner and expert, Agnes Water for beginners, you will find the cheapest lessons in Australia there, 3 hours of lessons all included (Surfboards and wetsuits for less than 20 dollars)! I think it’s worth it if you’ve never done it before and having some tips is always useful. Otherwise, if you don’t need lessons and you have enough confidence to go for it, you can rent a board for 2 hours for an average of 20 dollars in all towns where surfing is allowed! I can tell you that 2 hours feels short but you quickly get discouraged or tired! Have fun!!
