Budget for Thailand: my experience feedback
Having been to Thailand several times last year, I had the opportunity to do several activities that I have listed in my best activities in Thailand. In this article, I will present each activity and give a budget to do it.
This is also why this country is so popular with tourists.
Budget for Thailand: activities to do and prices.
Massage: 300 to 400 baht (6 to 8 euros per hour) in the city and on the islands, 200 baht (4 euros in the north).
Scuba diving: taking the first level of PADI (8000 to 13000 baht, about 180 to 260 euros with 4 dives, completed in 3 and a half days) the second level is about the same price with the same number of dives (completed in 3 days). If you want to do a diving baptism, it will cost you 2000 to 3000 baht (40 to 60 euros). It is as expensive as in Australia, so it is better to take the levels, it is more cost-effective.
One or several day excursions including elephant back riding, a lunch meal, a visit to an ethnic village, bamboo raft descent, and a small hike in the Thai forest! Price for one day 16 to 25 euros (800 to 1300 baht).
Scooter rental at 150 to 300 baht (3 to 5 euros). It is very easy to rent a scooter in Thailand if you have an ID.
Budget for Thailand: Thai food and prices
It is rare to see meals over 5 euros (300 baht except for lobster or large shrimp). Most Thai dishes are under 3 euros and the most basic ones are between 1 and 2 euros. The most expensive are beef-based dishes and Western dishes, count 100 to 250 baht (for hamburgers) or 300 baht if you want a rib steak.
Most beers (Singha, Chang, and Tiger) are very good and do not exceed 3 euros in stores or bars (0.7 liters). I actually recommend the first two!
Budget for Thailand: Transport in Thailand
To get from one point to another, there are several means:
- The plane, for those who don’t have much time and have money to spend! Count between 50 and 150 euros one way Bangkok Phuket or Bangkok Chiang Mai.
- The bus, the bus is quite easy to take but given the condition of the roads in Thailand, it takes a lot of time to travel from one point to another. Count less than 1000 baht (20 euros for Bangkok Chiang Mai or Bangkok Phuket).
- The boat, if you want to move to the islands, there is only one possible means of transport, the boat. Count 300 to 500 baht to go Krabi Phuket or Surat Thani Koh Samui and a bit more expensive to reach Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. I personally paid 800 baht and 700 baht Bangkok Koh Phangan (Bus-Boat). There are also night boats to connect Koh Tao to Surat Thani which allows you to save a night but the boat is more for backpackers and you are packed together!
Budget for Thailand: Accommodation:
You can find rooms from 3 euros but you will not have electricity or a shower! Count 3 euros more to have these services. You can also have a very nice room or bungalow for 10 euros per night, it rather depends on the neighborhood you choose.
Budget for Thailand:
Count 1000 euros per month if you want to enjoy to the max in backpacker mode, that was my budget. You can also restrict yourself and only spend 500 euros per month and if you are a spender use 2000 euros per month, it all depends if you want to prioritize your comfort or your money.
