100th article on travel advice
Essential to remember
The 100th article of a blog is a symbolic milestone. Statistically, only 10% of travel blogs reach this mark. Consistency (1-2 articles/week) remains the number one factor for steady growth and audience expansion.
- More than 10,000 visitors on the blog, over 500 comments, more than 50 fans on Facebook and 60 on Twitter but I will work a bit more on social networks.
- An average of 130 visitors / 110 unique visitors in June.
- The blog has been PR4 since May 2012 // ranks below 200,000 traffic rank on Alexa worldwide and below 10,000 in France. More than 180 domains linked to travel advice and many PR2 pages (20+) and PR1 (30+).
- The approximate distribution of the blog’s figures is as follows:
- 55% Search engines (65% over the last 2 months)
- 30% referring sites
- 15% other direct accesses and campaigns
I would really like to reverse the trend, retain my readers and depend less on search engines or increase visitors from referring sites.
I had rather focused on quantity during these first months and I will rather prioritize quality in the coming months. This explains the higher percentage for search engines.
- A publication every 2 to 4 days since March.
- Blog created 5 months ago (in 10 days) but the domain name has existed since August 2011.
- Information on more than 20 countries.
- I currently receive a lot of requests regarding link exchanges, sponsored articles and sponsored links, between 2 and 5 offers per week. The site is ranking better and better on search engines.
- The investment in Euros I made over these 5 months was to pay for hosting and the domain name which is about 50 euros for 1 year, it has already roughly earned me at least 30 times my investment in the last 2 months. I find that not bad considering I did not intend to monetize my site before 6 months.
Things to come:
Did you know?
According to HubSpot, blogs that publish 16 or more articles per month generate 3.5 times more traffic than those publishing 0-4 articles. Consistency beats perfection every time.
- Creation of a Newsletter and a free E-book.
- A series of articles in several episodes about my upcoming one-month trip to Beijing and Japan.
- Creation of a new section :
- The upcoming articles will cover the following topics :
- World tour
- Travel advice
- Travel thoughts
- Section on East Asia
- Europe
I thank the readers who have followed my blog and the loyal ones who have read me during these first months. I believe there will be many travel experience feedbacks and practical advice to organize these trips or advice for travelers.
Here you go,
The classic trap to avoid
Don’t rely on the number of articles alone. 100 mediocre SEO articles are not worth 30 excellent ones. Better to have a blog with 30 articles of 5,000 words than one with 200 articles of 300 words.

How many articles to make a living from a blog?
At least 150-200 well SEO-optimized articles, over 2-3 years, to generate a regular monthly income.
How to maintain a regular publishing schedule?
Editorial calendar, batch writing (4-5 articles in advance), alternating themes.
Should you publish every day?
No. 1-2 quality articles per week are better than 7 rushed articles.
