I spoke to you in a previous article about safety during travel, in this article, I will go a little deeper and talk about the precautions to take! Despite everything that is said in televised news about this or that country, traveling in these countries is not dangerous if you know how to handle it!

Whatever the place you are in Sydney, Berlin, San Francisco, etc., you need to take certain usual precautions to avoid any inconvenience!

One common misconception is that the dangers of crime are linked to poverty, this is both true and false! It is not because a place is different and poor that it is dangerous! Having traveled a lot, I can tell you that sometimes, I felt much less safe in large American cities than in Southeast Asian cities.

Traveling generally presents no risk for the ordinary traveler. The&nbsp ; dangerous countries are simply those that are inaccessible to tourists!

Most thefts aim to deprive you of all your belongings and generally, none of the thieves want to harm you unless one of the two parties starts to become aggressive.

The reason why theft happens so much during travel is that situations lend themselves to it and since you expose yourself to risky situations.

Safety Precautions to Take on Vacation

–  External Appearance

 In all places around the world, showing outward signs of wealth is a big risk for your safety. Wherever you are, you take a risk for yourself. Avoid wearing clothes that are not suited to the situation or displaying your purchasing power. Look around you and try to go unnoticed!

–  Bags

 Be careful with your bags, ideally you should have a hidden crossbody bag (not too conspicuous otherwise pickpocketing may happen), keep it in front of you to always keep an eye on it! Always be careful and keep in mind that theft happens quickly so hide your valuables as best as possible! Do not put them in your bag.

Put your drinks, your meal, clothes, useful things for you without valuables in it!

–  Luggage

&nbsp ; The item you must always keep an eye on in public places or on transport. Put a lock on it just in case and attach it if you are in an environment where you don’t feel comfortable!

–  Wallets

 Never put it in a backpack or in a pocket where it is easy for pickpockets to steal, always keep in mind that theft can happen so quickly without becoming paranoid! Always put it in the front pocket! Do not keep too much cash in your wallet and avoid carrying your credit cards.

–  Security pouches

 It looks like a shoulder bag and is called a kangaroo bag. These are pouches that are better worn under clothing, that do not attract attention and are not visible!

–  Limiting the damage

 Always have several places where you keep your money: backpack, on you, luggage, at the hotel, have traveler’s checks. Losses will be limited and you won’t lose everything at once. As a precaution, make a photocopy of your passport and plane tickets, note your credit card number, your driver’s license number, emergency phone numbers (insurance, loss/theft of card), try to have a small notebook and make a digital reminder of these numbers where you note everything!

–  Traveler’s checks

Very useful when you travel, you don’t have to carry large amounts of money on you! However, some places do not accept traveler’s checks!

–  Currency

Always check your change even if most of the time it is not worth much, it’s better to be careful not to get scammed.

–  Unexpected thieves

Thieves are sometimes people you wouldn’t suspect! They can be other tourists, women, or children!

–  Risky neighborhoods

 Never walk alone in the street in poorly frequented and poorly lit neighborhoods in a city you do not know ! It is better to be in a group and even then you have to be careful. There are certain neighborhoods to avoid both day and night !

–  Drugs

&nbsp ;You have to be careful because in some countries like Thailand or Indonesia, the sellers and the police are in cahoots ! Never take any risk related to drugs. A mistake can cost you dearly and the penalties in some countries can be quite severe.

–  Alcohol

 Refrain from drinking before driving! Avoid finding yourself alone in a street while intoxicated. Have fun but control yourself ! Many people have noticed their belongings were stolen afterwards because they were tipsy !

–  Political opinions

 Keep a low profile and avoid talking about certain subjects, criticizing certain thoughts and customs ! In the case of Thailand where the king is highly respected, you can end up in prison if you speak ill of him !

– Common sense

 There are quite a few examples in this particular case ! If you are not used to traveling, at least respect common sense to avoid trouble ! Don’t do things you wouldn’t allow in your own country! Avoid strange people, be careful with your documents, be careful not to be followed, don’t leave money visible to others !
