Trip to the Seaside or Nature

19 October 2012

Review of a Stay at the Sea or in the Mountains.

What to choose: nature holidays or the sea?

During my last trip around the world, I was able to have many travel experiences, sometimes visiting national parks, multi-day hikes, sunbathing, scuba diving in Asia, surfing lessons on an Australian beach.

In this article, I will present two points of view: nature stays (mountains, hiking, national parks, etc.) and stays at the sea (surfing, sunbathing, snorkeling, reading under a parasol, etc.). I will give you the advantages and disadvantages of each.

A stay at the sea

Traveling to the sea is often much more relaxed; you often have fixed accommodation, and you ask yourself “How to rent a holiday home” by the sea. It’s quite easy and doesn’t pose any problems; just follow the advice in this article.

Advantages of holidays at the sea:

  • You do nothing, you bask in the sun
  • The many activities offered: surfing, windsurfing, snorkeling, water skiing, jet skiing, etc.
  • You go to a restaurant at noon and have an aperitif after the beach; you can also have barbecues.
  • One of my pastimes is reading on the beach or else I sleep, sunbathe.

Disadvantages of holidays at the sea:

  • You spend more than on nature holidays 😀
  • You indulge yourself, so you eat well, so you gain weight also because you bask in the sun, with little physical activity! They also say that during holidays you gain weight, partly because you go to the beach :D.
  • You lose your rhythm, but that can also be counted among the advantages :D.

In conclusion, holidays at the sea are more for relaxing than anything else.

A nature stay

Unlike a stay at the sea, nature stays are a bit different; you are more likely to ask yourself how you will camp or which hiking route you will take. In a previous article, I gave my opinion on camping in Europe.

Advantages of nature stays:

  • You get significant physical activity; I have done hikes lasting several hours while it was 35°C in the sun. It’s good exercise.
  • You eat more balanced and nutritious meals; you need to eat well to stay in shape!
  • You don’t spend much because most hiking and nature stay activities are cheaper than at the sea.
  • You live according to the rhythm of day and night, campfires for the more courageous

Disadvantages of nature stays

  •  You are governed by the sun
  • There aren’t many activity options if you do nature camping.

You could say that a holiday stay at the sea or in nature are almost opposites.

I have done both and sometimes varied, and that is exactly what I did in Australia where I alternated camping and work during my first 8 months and stays at the sea for the next 7 months.

And you? What do you think, which do you prefer: a stay at the sea or at the beach?
