Christmas Trip 2011
I am not used to talking about my travel stories on this blog, but I am going to tell you how I organized my trip to Berlin last Christmas.
Last Christmas was a bit special; I had spent the last two winters in Australia at over 30 degrees under the sun of Sydney and Tasmania. I had returned from my world tour in May 2011 and said my goodbyes to Thailand at the beginning of September 2011. I had started work since September and was a bit bored at work. We had a mandatory week off which was the last week of the year. So I organized a trip for myself as usual!
How I organized my Christmas holidays 2011
I hesitated about the destination until the last day of the week before my holidays and was still tirelessly trying to find someone to go with.
No luck, I found no one. Now with the idea of going alone, all that was left was to find a plane ticket within my budget and a place where I could find cheap accommodation.
Knowing that we were close to the departure date, it was very difficult to find a reasonable ticket price. So I tried various destinations day and night on flight comparison sites and was still hesitating about the destination. I finally decided after 3 days on a destination I wanted to go to, which was Berlin.
Being able to speak German, this city has always attracted me. Moreover, the things that gave it an advantage over others (Stockholm, or Copenhagen, or Vienna, which are cities I visited in May 2012) were the advantageous prices of accommodations.
So I found a plane ticket on Air France with a departure on December 25th. The ticket price is actually cheaper on the 25th because it is a holiday and also Christmas Eve, so no one wants to travel at that time, which made me happy!
I paid 240 euros for my plane ticket which is quite expensive but knowing that I bought it a week before leaving and that I absolutely wanted to escape elsewhere, I paid the price.
Then I booked on my favorite hostel booking site hostelworld, the accommodation where I would spend my one-week stay. The hostel where I stayed is called the wombat hostel. This hostel has several advantages, there is a small kitchen where you can cook and it especially has a place where you can meet other travelers: the bar. It was actually there that I met some Australians, Americans, Londoners, and Finns!

I wanted to spend New Year’s Eve in Berlin but I joined a friend in Amsterdam.
