China travel budget, cost and prices
I previously told you about my trip to Asia, more specifically to China and Japan. I had notably written an article on the budget for Japan. Now in this article, I will cover the budget for China.
China travel budget and Beijing
If you still don’t know what to do in Beijing, I suggest you read this article here for a stopover of 2 to 4 days there.
As you might expect, prices in China are much lower than in Japan and France. I can even tell you that if you have an income of more than 600 euros, you can live very well.
The currency of China is the Yuan; when I left, one euro was equivalent to 8-8.5 yuan.
China travel budget: Transportation prices in Beijing
The price of a Metro ticket is 2 yuan, or 20 euro cents.
The price of a bus ticket starts at 1 Yuan, or 10 euro cents.
Airport Taxi: 120-150 Yuan // Black taxi: 400-500 yuan.
The train from the Airport to the city costs: 25 yuan or 3 euros.
I traveled by Metro throughout my stay in Beijing.
When I wanted to go out in the evening, I took a taxi, it cost me 20-30 yuan, or 3 or 4 euros, so it really costs nothing unless you go out every night and take a taxi, then it quickly becomes expensive if you do it often!
Transport to the Great Wall of China costs from 100 to 200 Yuan.
You can go there on your own for less.
Bus –> Donzhimen to the station for the wall, 12 Yuan / 24 Yuan round trip.
The station to the wall 30 yuan / 60 Yuan round trip. Total: Metro-Bus-Taxi = 90 Yuan.
Check with your hotel for directions.
China travel budget: Accommodation prices in Beijing
For our youth hostel, we paid 70 yuan per night (8.5 euros) for a 4-person room but for a 2-person room, you can get one for less than 10 euros. We took the best and most expensive youth hostel in the Xiamen district in the south of Beijing.
For more upscale or mid-range hotels, you can find some for 15 euros per night.
China travel budget: Food prices in Beijing
Restaurant prices are more expensive than street stalls; you can eat in the hutongs or at street stalls for almost nothing. If you go to a restaurant, you will definitely spend less than 50 Yuan each, or 6 euros, even if you eat a lot!
A Tsingtao beer costs 10 yuan, a small bottle 5 yuan maximum.
If you buy genuine brand-name clothes, it’s more expensive than in Europe.
However, if you buy made in China products, it’s cheaper! You can find many clothes or high-tech items, or objects of all kinds much cheaper than in France.
For example, we paid 15 yuan, or 2 euros, for an iPhone case; in France, it cost at least 5 euros.
