The Other Side of San Francisco

Everyone has heard of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, or San Francisco’s Chinatown, which hosts the largest Chinese community outside Asia (a little personal cultural info: the largest Japanese community is in Brazil, in Sao Paulo’s Liberdade neighborhood).

Here is a photo for the anecdote about the San Francisco bridge data; the bridge was very impressive for its time, and many thought it was impossible to build or that it wouldn’t hold. It was the longest suspension bridge in the world for 30 years (for information, the longest suspension bridge is in Kobe, Japan, 1991 meters, a bit more than 700 meters longer than the Golden Gate Bridge, which is 1280 meters long):

San Francisco’s Layout:

San Francisco has more than 50 hills within the city limits—amazing, you will get a workout if you bike there!

One of the most famous is Russian Hill: this San Francisco neighborhood has a street like a roller coaster:

Gay Neighborhood:

San Francisco also has its Gay neighborhood “the CASTRO” which is like the Marais in Paris or Oxford St in Sydney!

San Francisco is the most famous city in the world for its Gay community; it hosts the biggest GAY PRIDE in the world, one of the city’s major events along with the Chinese New Year!

It is not only a celebration of gay pride but also of the entire city!

Hippie neighborhood:

San Francisco also has a hippie neighborhood: Haight Ashbury.

This is where the hippie trend comes from because it is in this neighborhood that the hippie movement was born! The neighborhood is very pleasant because you find shops with second-hand products such as records and books; you also find “coffee shops” and period houses!

The architecture of this neighborhood is very interesting and quite original. The houses were built just after the earthquake in San Francisco a bit at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Another point that is not often talked about but well known, is Californian wines and indeed not far from San Francisco, there are some vineyards that produce the best Californian wines! Unfortunately, I could not go there due to lack of time but I am saving it for the next time during my world tour.

Italian Neighborhood: North Beach

&nbsp ; San Francisco also has its Italian neighborhood but on a smaller scale compared to Chinatown. It is also in this area where you find the best spots for going out at night; the neighborhood has many bars and restaurants. &nbsp ; I won’t go into too much detail about the Chinatown neighborhood but it is the place where you find the cheapest souvenirs! &nbsp ;

My opinion on San Francisco:

I mentioned it to you during my adventure in San Francisco and I really think it is the most vibrant city in the United States, it is magical! It is really worth it, stay there at least 4 days.

It also has great diversity, whether community-wise or culturally. It is the most European city among the major American metropolises as you find the charm of the biggest cities in Europe.
