“Hello, I plan to go to Australia for 1 year with a working holiday visa. I would like some advice on the trip:
– is it possible if I leave with more than 2000 euros to start with
– is it easy to find jobs in Australia? I read your page on how to get by with 200 dollars, I admit I’m freaking out!
– are French people accepted quite easily even if we don’t have a very very good level of English? I hope I’m not bothering you too much with these questions…””

First of all, for readers who have just arrived on the site, I have a section dedicated to travel advice and another Australia advice.
First element of response :
To tell you a bit about my journey, I lived in Australia for 15 months and I only spent 1500 euros of my savings (including plane ticket) for a maximum of 8 months of work! How did I do it?
One piece of advice I could give is that it all depends on YOU! It could have been Canada, South Korea or Japan but in our case, we are talking about Australia!
The relationship to money is very important in a trip. We can summarize it in several things “Comfort and Money”.
Let’s take an example :
I lived in a tent for 6 months! Half of the 6 months, it cost me nothing because I used free camping and for the other half, you can count 12 dollars per night maximum!
Let’s do a quick calculation if I had lived in a backpacker or an apartment at 120 dollars a week: 6 months in a tent = 1080$ VS 6 months in backpackers = 2880$.
I saved 1800 dollars in 6 months!
I’m not telling you to sleep in a tent but that was an example.
Other quick tips: Avoid drinking, smoking, buy products on sale either after 8pm or in the morning. Prioritize money over comfort if you want to succeed in your trip, change your lifestyle, eat cheaply (all backpackers eat rice and pasta).
Follow the advice living with 200 dollars per month
By following these tips, I lived very well! As a side note, I spent 1500 euros of my savings in 15 months in Australia and 3000 euros in 3 months in Asia because in Asia I prioritized my pleasure over money!
First important point: Know how to manage your money, if you can do that, you’ve won.

As said before, it all depends on you, what skills do you have? Take initiatives!
Connections are very important, the network works very well in Australia!
Be positive, be enthusiastic, it is difficult to find a job if you are not motivated but there are other alternatives like woofing or HelpX, jobs abroad.
Second basic advice: stay motivated, avoid comfort

Third element of response :
It’s not only the French who are bad at English, there are quite a few Japanese, Koreans, Taiwanese, Chileans, Belgians. Everyone starts on the same footing at the beginning, after that it depends on YOU, your ability to convince, your motivation, if you are pretty (that also plays a role).
One thing that works quite well for job searching is to talk about it around you, and some people are in the same situation as you and find work overnight, that’s motivating!
