Traveler Advice Review
At the time I am writing this message, this article is the 155th, I started blogging exactly 10 months ago, which means I have written 15 articles per month or 1 every 2 days. Impressive, considering I have more than 10 blogs/sites (for 3 months now). 😀
Some figures about Traveler Advice
- The blog has existed for 10 months
- 155 articles on the blog
- The blog has been PR4 for 6 months, has a domain authority of 37, Alexa rank 10997, a little over 100 Facebook fans, and more than 250 linking domains.
- It has 1000 pages indexed on Google.
- At the time I am writing to you, more than 40,000 people have visited the site or more than 30,000 unique visitors. That’s an average of 3000-4000 visitors over 10 months. I reached a peak of 6500 visitors per month in September but it has dropped to 5500 visitors per month currently.
- I have a bounce rate of 64%, average visit duration of 2 minutes.
I would like to retain my visitors a bit more!! That is my goal for 2013. Possibly reaching 15,000 visitors by the end of 2013, if possible!
- I visited 7 countries this year: the Netherlands (Amsterdam), Sweden (Stockholm), Austria (Vienna), Denmark (Copenhagen), Germany (Berlin), China (Beijing), and Japan.
- Regarding monetization, I have been monetizing since May but my average over 10 months is 500 euros on this single site, the current trend is 400 euros per month.
I will come back to this last point.
Making money with a travel blog
As mentioned earlier, I have written 155 articles since the creation. I earn an average of 500 euros over 10 months. What I don’t say in this numerical review is that I have worked a lot. I have lost count of the hours for this blog.
I will still do a calculation:
I must count at least 20 hours per week for the first 3 months, 10 hours per week for the next 3 months, and 5 hours per week for the last 4 months, which is more than 400 hours of work or a full-time 35-hour job for more than 2 months over 10 months. Imagine doing that after your job!!
Living from your travel blog
With everything expected on the web, it seems super easy and that everyone can do it. I say that everyone can do it if they are motivated, give themselves the means and time to achieve it. The reality is quite different, you especially have to be passionate but know that it is not enough. You also need the right information and to know how it works, and work. No more TV after work, the nights will be short! After that, it’s like almost everywhere, many people start and few finish.

- I publish less and less (6-10 articles per month) because I try to devote more time to several other projects, notably my round-the-world trip project and also personal development tanned.fr
- Publishing guest articles on older blogs or with good SEO scores has helped a lot with my referencing; that is also why I have a fairly high percentage of new visitors. My goal for 2013 is to create a community all around the site but I first need to improve my skills on social networks! That’s why I will be doing tests over the next 6 months.
- Most people come through long tail, which is quite encouraging but since I work little on the site’s SEO, I don’t know what it will give.
I hope to continue my travel streak and results on this blog because it was my first real blog where I share my experiences by giving travel advice. I plan to take two big 3-week vacation periods in May and August to make two big trips and also long weekends! I can afford to take unpaid leave (since I earn some money with my blogs!)
