Where to spend a stay for New Year’s 2024?

I am going to talk to you about the New Year period outside of France, about my experiences abroad. Additionally, I will suggest some destinations where I would like to go in a final section.

New Year stay abroad that I experienced

I lived abroad for more than 8 years and here are my 8 New Year experiences abroad in 6 countries: &nbsp ;

• Australia
• Germany
• Myanmar
• Thailand
• Colombia&nbsp ;
• Brazil

I will quickly tell you about these experiences with some details.

New Year on a small island in Australia for New Year 2010

In the southern hemisphere, the great advantage of this period is the beautiful summer sun; I recommend trying it at least once because it is very different from Europe.

So, it is mostly sunny everywhere and warm.

I therefore spent my first New Year abroad in a small town in the south of Tasmania in shorts and flip-flops.

We organized a barbecue and celebrated the New Year in Australian style with drinks.

At that time, I was living in a campsite in Cygnet, a central place to go work on the farms in the region.

New Year in Sydney for New Year 2011

At this time of year, I had finished my first Working Holiday Visa (PVT) in Australia and I chose to stay for 6 months in Sydney.

This period is not to be missed because there are fireworks near the bridge.

Thus, you can go to the Opera House and the botanical garden to be well placed for the fireworks.

However, since it is a very popular place, it is better to arrive very early in the afternoon to reserve your spot.

Because you will not be able to enter if you arrive too late in the afternoon.

If you are still around, at the end of January, there is Australian Day, the national holiday with quite a few original celebrations.

New Year in Berlin in 2013&nbsp ;

I don’t yet know where I will spend New Year this year, but it will surely be in Europe.

In 2012, I had already spent the Christmas period in Berlin but I left before New Year.

So, in 2013, I decided to go to a language school to improve my German and spend New Year.

On New Year’s Eve, I went to the avenue where the Brandenburg Gate is located (the equivalent of the Champs-Élysées).

There are food stands and music at this place.

Also, there is the fireworks at midnight.

I went with my classmates, dress warmly because it can be cold.

Then, we went partying in an urban festive place with many rooms with different atmospheres.

I don’t remember the place but we had bought the tickets in advance.

New Year in Burma in 2014

Burma was opened to tourists in 2011, so I went to this country to discover a country that had just opened up to the world.

So I decided to spend this time of year in Burma in a small town near the lake and it was quite calm.

We went with another group I had met earlier at the village festival and we drank the local rice-based alcohol.

If I had to do it again, I would go to Bagan to see the hot air balloons but I don’t know if there are flights on New Year’s Day.

New Year on an island in Thailand in 2015

This New Year’s Day seems a bit anecdotal to me because I had already been there in 2012 and stayed for two weeks.

I went to Koh Phangan, the island of the Full Moon Party.&nbsp ;

So I spent Christmas, New Year’s, and the Full Moon Party on this island and partied every other day.

It’s quite a special place where people gather to party in the village and along the long Haad Rin beach.

You will like it and make the right choice if :

• you want to party,
• be on a nice beach,
• drink your beverage in a small bucket,
• love electronic music,

Otherwise, you can choose the island of Koh Phi Phi, the one from the movie “The Beach”.

New Year in Medellin, Colombia in 2016

I don’t really recommend the New Year or Christmas period in Colombia.

Indeed, it is a rather quiet time because locals celebrate New Year’s with family and some party afterwards.

As a result, there are fewer people in the party districts (Parque Lleras) than during a normal weekend.

On the other hand, Medellin is a central place in Antioquia where you can stay 3-5 days in this city.

New Year in Rio de Janeiro in 2020

For New Year’s Day, Brazilians dress in white and gather at Copacabana beach to party.

There are therefore 10,000 people in white, drinks, and music at Copacabana.

Thus, there are fireworks at midnight and the party lasts all evening on the beach.

In November 2019, I took a cruise from Barcelona to Recife in northern Brazil with 300 digital nomads.

I then met up with these digital nomads for New Year’s in Rio de Janeiro.&nbsp ;

&nbsp ;

&nbsp ;

New Year in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2023

In Sao Paulo, there is Avenida Paulista, which is the main avenue of the city like Rue Rivoli in Paris.

Moreover, it is the place to go for New Year’s in this city.

There is a good atmosphere, music all night, and fireworks.

Prices are affordable because there are some street vendors.

Places I would like to stay for New Year 2024

I have lived in many places around the world and I will give you my preferences :

• Barcelona for its original aspect
• Rome for its culture and city
• Istanbul for its history and oriental atmosphere
• Bocas del Toro in Panama for the island and its surroundings
• Mauritius with family for the people and the living environment

Conclusion: &nbsp ;

Of all these destinations where I have been, I therefore recommend Sydney, Berlin, an island in Thailand, and Rio de Janeiro.

The other places I recommend can be good places to party and celebrate New Year’s.
